This volume is fully bound in tree-marbled leather over boards with mottled green edges to the text block and gold impressed decoration to the board rims. The front paste-down has a large previous owners bookplate in the centre with "Rose" underneath a Heraldic device. Written in pencil to the top of this page is "With half-title, and an engraved frontispiece in vol 1". Also written in pencil to the top of the front free end-page is "?£200". There are further booksellers marks, written in pencil, to the foot of the rear paste-down. The frontispiece is a copper-plate image of Sterne, within a roundall above the writing "Laurence Sterne, A.M. Prebendary of York &c. &c.". To the bottom left of the plate is "Sir J. Reynolds pinxit" and to the bottom right is "I. /neagle Sculpt" and underneath centre is "Published Octr 20th 1798 by Cadell and Davies, Strand".
