Description
'The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman' in nine volumes, 1761
There were two people named Robert Willis Blencowe. The first was a doctor in Northampton, the son of Robert Blencowe and his wife Margaret Danvers born 1766, educated at Brasenose College, Oxford, married 1789 Penelope, daughter of Sir George Robinson, and died 1842. His son, of The Hooke, Sussex, with the same name was born 1791, educated at Oriel College, Oxford, married 1815 Charlotte Elizabeth, daughter of the Revd Henry Poole, and died 1874.

Object history
The book was purchased in 1986. It is Volume III. The bookplate only features in this volume. The book is fully bound in leather and has a frontispiece based on an image by Hogarth depicting 'The buttoning of Walter's breeches'.
