This volume is fully bound in leather with red mottled edges to the text block. On the front paste-down there are 2 labels; top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". There are also notes in pencil on this page on 6 lines "Ex dono P.E. ((Peter Eaton)) 1.4.70 (He gave 2nd ed). Published feb '66 and GM p.91 price 2s. 6p. Yet see p. 143 when the author implies that the price was 2s. Italics on p. 140 not in 2nd ed". On the bottom of the rear paste-down is "[400]" in pencil. Impressed into the title page is a circular image with a man holding the rudder of a small ship and pointing to 4 stars. Around the edge is the motto "Si je les perd je suis perdu." in capitols". The spine has 4 raised bands with gilt lines either side. The volume piece "9" in impressed gilt in the third panel down.The board faces have a border of 2 gilt lines and the board rims have the remains of impressed decoration.
