The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 9. A First Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boads with red mottling to the edges of the text block. On the front paste-down are 2 labels; "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". Also on this page written in pencil is "Nowell Smith variant G backs half-title". On the top of the title page written in ink is a previous owners signature "John Landon". On the title page is a Latin epigram. On the reverse of the title page, the errata page, is a circular stamp with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Laurence Sterne has signed "L. Sterne" in ink on the top of page 1. This volume includes A Dedication to a Great Man.The spine has 5 raised bands with gilt lines either side and floral decoration in between. In impressed gilt capitols on an ox-blood background in the second panel is "Tristram Shandy" with "9" below on a black (green?) background. The board faces are decorated by a border of 2 impressed gilt lines, and the board edges have impressed gilt decoration. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page. IS p.1
