Something New. In Two Volumes

This volume is fully bound in marbled boards, Turkish Antiqued pattern, with a replaced leather spine. The paste-downs and free end-pages are comprised from sheets of marbled paper, French Curl (on Turkish) pattern; both of the paste-downs have been replaced but the free end-pages are the originals. The front paste-down has 2 labels; "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Written in ink on the reverse of the front free end-page is a previous owners signature, it has been written at the top left and then scrubbed out and also within the centre of the page "Charles...?". Also written in ink on the top of the first blank page is a second previous owners signature "Wm Ramus"; underneath this in pencil is "(Griffith Richard)" and "On p 152, vol 2 is his admission of the authorship of The Koran'". On the reverse of the title pages of both volumes is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. There are also some notes of music on the rear free end-page. The catchword is to the bottom of every page. Pages 244=247, at the end of Volume 1 are un-numbered pages with music printed on them and labelled as; "Giga", Gavotte" and "Minuet". In Volume 2 are printed mathematical diagrams on pages 103=104, a cut of a hand on page 113 and page 114 is blank.
