The Poll Alphabetically Digested from the Original Poll-Books which were open'd at York Castle on Wednesday the Fifteenth of May 1734.

Both front and back boards are decorated in coloured red and green embossed decoration which is badly worn, front board is loose. Three books bound in one 'The Poll Alphabetically Digested...' [pp. 1 - 80] Pages 77 - 88 misnumbered and corrected in manuscript. On the front pastedown is a label for Shandy Hall library and a previous owner's bookplate. "A Libris Joannis Burton de Heath in Connit. Eborac MD. MD." [ Dr Slop ] There are notes in pencil "Yorkshire Sixth" "£1/1/1" "£30.00" - all bookseller's notes. At the rear of the volume, bound in, is an 'Alphabetical list of all the free holders in the city of York who voted for Members of Parliament at the election for Knights of the Shire; which election began May the 15th, 1734, and ended the 23rd instant.' The list has pen additions throughout. This volume is tied. Within the volume is a loosely inserted sheet protected by Melinex - an original manuscript dated 1733 addressed to 'Dear Sir' and signed 'J S Lowther' - a letter requesing electoral support for Rowland Wynne. There is also a sheet of paper from Charterhouse, Godalming with the Burser's compliments - at the front of the volume instructions to people running the poll, questions to ask each prospective elector (written on behalf of Miles Stapleton). Letter from Lowther to an unnamed elector solicting his vote for Sir Rowland Wynne. Both boards dettached, volume is taped.
