Writing the Future

Children’s work

Year 5 students from Crayke Primary School visited their local church with creative writer John Wedgwood-Clarke and then produced their own creative work. You can read some of their poems and imaginative impressions below.

“I like how you could use all your senses to make sentences more descriptive.”

“I liked looking at the comparison between Coxwold and Crayke churches.”

“It helped us in our literacy work with similes and personification.”

“When John read to us, the emphasis he used made the work seem more dramatic.”

“I enjoyed having the opportunity to read from the pulpit.”

“It made me realise that you could turn anything into personification – any of the objects in the church.”

“The whole event has been very educational for the children. The children particularly enjoyed being able to visit both the churches in Crayke and Coxwold and go to all the interesting places that other people can’t go to! Many of the children enjoyed talking about the differences and similarities between the two churches. The input from John, the creative writer, inspired the children to improve their poetry and think about personification from a different view point.” Mrs. Manfield (Class teacher)
