This volume is missing both boards, although the leather spine suggests that it was originally fully bound in calf. The edges of the text block have red speckling. Written in pencil on the top right corner of the title page is "F" The catchword is to the bottom right of each page. Located after the half title is a List of Subscribers Names. On the reverse of the title page of Volume 4 is the circular ink stamp with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall " around the rim and "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Both title pages have a printed publishers device in the centre.
