Both the front and rear boards, front end pages, frontispiece and half title page are missing. Written on the top of both the title page and the dedication page is "At Reading In Bu...?" with further writing above and then crossed out in black ink. The writing on both pages is illegible. There is also feint writing on the rear free end-page. Stamped onto the reverse of the title page is the circular stamp with "The Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" and inside "The Kenneth Monkman Collection".
