The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 3.

The volume is fully bound in speckled leather covered boards with red mottling to the edges of the text block. On the front paste-down there are 3 labels; in the centre is a previous owners bookplate around a heraldic device is the motto "Boutez en Avant" with "James Smith Barry" underneath, all in capitols. Pasted top left and partially covering the bookplate are "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath and partially covering the bookplate is "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986"; and written adjacent to these in pencil is "KM 15 State 1". Stamped onto the reverse of the title page is the circular stamp with "The Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" and inside "The Kenneth Monkman Collection". Written in ink on the rear paste down are booksellers marks (?).
