The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 4. 1st Edition.

The volume is fully bound in speckled leather covered boards with red mottling to the edges of the text block. On the front paste-down there are 2 labels "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". Written in pencil underneath these labels is "KM Copy 2 of State 2" and further Bibliographers notes. Written in copperplate writing on the front free end-page is a previous owners signature "William Bowden. August 10th 1804", this is written horizontally across the page. Also written in copperplate on the 2nd fly is "Govern your Passions. Govern your Passions. Humility. Book" in different places and orientations. A previous owners signature has been crossed out from the top right corner of the title page. Stamped onto the reverse of the title page is the circular stamp with "The Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" and inside "The Kenneth Monkman Collection".
