The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 3. A New Edition (containing original Volume 3 Chapter xxxi=end & all of the original Volume 4).
The volume is fully bound in mottled leather covered boards. Pasted onto the front paste-down are 3 labels: within the centre is a large paper label with "Long's Circulating Library, Deal", this has been crossed out in ink and the name "Pennington" has been written across it in capitols. Pasted onto the top right corner are 2 small white labels "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". The top of the front free end-page has been torn off in order to obliterate a previous owners signature, which partially remains. Stamped onto the reverse of the title page is the circular stamp with "The Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" and inside "The Kenneth Monkman Collection".
