Yorick's Sentimental Journey, Through France, Italy etc. Four volumes Complete in One, With Continuation.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards with the pages of the text block having marbled edges.. Both front and rear paste-downs and free end-pages are comprised of a single sheet of marble paper (Shell pattern ?). Around the edge, the leather that folds over the board forms a border which has been decorated with a gilt and impressed design. The front paste-down has 2 labels added; to the top left hand corner "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall", underneath this is "Property of the LS Trust, 1986. On the reverse of the front free end-page is "Bound by Potter & Sons. York" in capitols in tiny writing on the top edge. On the top of the adjoining and first blank page is "16/-" in pencil. On the reverse of the title page is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. On the back paste-down is "56" written in pencil top right corner. There is a previous owners signature on the title page, top right and written in ink "Andw Dundas".The frontispiece is full page and has "Frontispiece" above in capitols. Both the image from the frontispiece and the information, including signature, on the title page have off-set onto one another.
