The title page has one of the earliest known examples of Sterne's signature. It reads Lau.. Sterne 1738. There are marks above the signature which show that he has shortened his name. The Table of Contents lists sixteen discourses and three sermons. The back end paper has illegible pencil markings. Both the front and back boards are damaged. The book is leather bound. The spine has four raised bands. On both boards there is an embossed rectangular pattern with a flower on each corner on both covers. The leather is marked and splitting.
