The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 9.

This volume is fully bound in leather with red mottling to the edges of the text block. On the front paste-down there are 2 labels; top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". On the rear paste-down written in pencil is "N. Smith variant B " On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Also in pencil on the Dedication Page is "Nowell-Smith variant (B) v. R.cat II 537". Laurence Sterne has signed "L. Sterne" in ink on the top of top of the half-title page. The spine has 5 raised bands, the title piece is in the second panel down in gilt capitols on an ox-blood background "Tristram Shandy" and the volume number is in the fourth panel down in gilt on a green background "9" both are surrounded by gilt borders. The board faces are decorated by a border of 3 impressed lines. IS p.1
