The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 9. The First Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather with red mottled edges to the text block. On the front paste-down there are 2 labels; top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". There are also notes in pencil on this page "KM 7 variant B unsigned copy lacks half-title" "Bit 327". On the top right of the front free end-page written in ink is "W. M - from ALD". On the title page around the word "of" written in ink is "L. M. J". On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. The spine has 5 raised bands with gilt lines either side. The title piece is in the second panel down, impressed in gilt capitols on an ox-blood background "Tristra Shandy" underneath is "9" in impressed gilt.The board rims have the remains of impressed decoration.
