The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volume 1. The Third Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather with red mottled edges to the text block. On the front paste-down there are 2 labels; top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". There are also 6 lines of pencil notes "3rd ed copy, variants from 2nd ed visited herein. State 3 J5L 103". On the front free end page also in pencil is "O1 FRE". Also on the obverse of the first blank page in pencil is "934 Cox 23G". On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. On the rear paste-down in pencil is "ST. 149 of R?". The spine has 5 raised bands, the title piece is missing but the impression remains "Tristram Shandy" in capitols on 2 lines surrounded by a border of 2 lines. Underneath in impressed gilt is "I". The board rims have the remains of impressed decoration.
