The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volumes 1 and 2. The Sixth Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. On the front paste-down there are 3 labels; within the centre is a large previous owners bookplate depicting the heraldic arms of, and with "Sr Martin Browne Ffolkes, Bart." underneath to the top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath and partially covering the bookplate is "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". On the front free end-page written in pencil are various notes "State 2 on A5b", "Bookseller's price £400", "Gift to L S Trust by David Crocker". On the reverse of the title page of both volumes is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. On the rear paste-down written in pencil is a bookseller's price mark and "9 vols in 5 evo". The spine has 4 raised bands. In impressed gilt capitols in the second panel down is "Tristram Shandy" on an ox-blood background. Underneath also in inpressed gilt capitols is "1&2" on a green background, surrounded by florate and fleur-de-lys decoration . The board rims have impressed gilt decoration. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page.
