The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. Volumes 7 and 8. The First Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. On the front paste-down there are 3 labels; within the centre is a large previous owners bookplate depicting the heraldic arms of, and with "Sr Martin Browne Ffolkes, Bart." underneath. to the top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with adjacent "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". On the reverse of the title page of both volumes is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Laurence Sterne has signed "L. Sterne" in ink on the top of page 1 volume 7. On the rear paste-down in pencil is "Where best to die 38". The spine has 4 raised bands. In impressed gilt capitols in the second panel down is "Tristram Shandy" on an ox-blood background. Underneath also in inpressed gilt capitols is "7&8" on a green background. The board rims have impressed gilt decoration. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page. There is a silk bookmark in this volume. IS p.1 vol 7
