This volume is half bound in over boards and half marbled paper (Dahlia pattern ?). The front and rear paste-downs and free end-pages are formed from a single sheet of thicker paper which is a salmon pink on one side and white on the side facing the text block. The front paste-down has 2 labels added, "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and underneath this is "Property of the LS Trust, 1986". Where the leather corners touch the free end-page when the volume is closed an acidic transfer has occured leaving localised staining. On the reverse of the front free end-page are various notes in pencil. A possible and illegible owners signature top left "Sh......"? with "£3.10" within a pencil circle underneath. "Ms", "Scarce" and "af" all in one hand and "m/g" (?) top right.On the rear paste-down is "55" in pencil top right. On the reverse of the title page, the frontispiece and the other plate (opposite page 73) is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. Page 180 there is an advertisement of new books printed for the proprietor.
