This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. All volumes in this 5 volume set have the edges of the text block marbled (Placard pattern?). The front paste-down has 3 labels; within the centre is a large previous owners bookplate with "Bydand" in capitols in a scroll above a heraldic device and underneath "Charles Napier Gordon of Hallhead". On the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and underneath this is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Above the bookplate and partially underneath the other labels are various comments in pencil, some of which have faded "pa/ARC/769", "?y 1-9 (3 ed) "? 1-22, 23-45", "? Journey 1-2 and ?" the rest is unclear. There is also "£25". On the front free-end page are a couple of illegible ink marks. On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside.
