The Works of Laurence Sterne. In Ten Volumes Complete. Containing, 1. The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gent. 2. A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy. 3. Sermons. 4. Letters. With a Life of the Author, Written by Himself.
This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. The front paste-down has 4 labels, within the centre is a previous owners bookplate which has a second bookplate covering it, however the motto is "? Crux Anchora" above the name "JJ (TT?) Rennell Esqr", above this is a smaller and second previous owners bookplate with "Lady Rodd 1840" inside, written in pencil on the top right of this book plate is "K-3". On the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and underneath and partially covering the bookplates is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". There is some evidence to suggest that the paste-down is covering a previous page as some writing has bled through and looks like "Samuel". On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. On the rear paste-down written in pencil are 2 large intricate initials, possibly "JJ" or "GG".
