This volume is bound in marbled boards with a plain brown spine.The paste-downs and end-pages are comprised from single sheets of marbled paper (Shell pattern and each volume in this set has the same marbled paper). The edges of the text block are also marbled.The front paste-down has 2 labels on the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Printed on the obverse of the half title page is "Paris Imprimerie de A. Beraud. Rue de Foin-Saint-Jacques, No 9". Written in pencil on the front first blank page is"se/c £25" which has been erased in the past. Also written in pencil, on the title page is "4 V" with a small pencil mark at the bottom which is illegible.On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. On the title page is a device incorporating 'L' and 'S' above a half circle of foliage. On the reverse of the end free end-page written in pencil is "4 vols HSS/ 1.600-". The spine is decorated gilt tooled patterns with "Sterne 1" near to the head band and "Tristram Shandy 1" near to the tail band".
