This volume is bound in marbled tree leather over boards. The front paste-down has 3 labels; in the centre is an address sticker "Joel C. Downing, Beck Farm Mews, Railway Street, Slingsby, York, YO6 7AN 0653 628550" (this label covers a previous one for the same man with a different address).On the top left side "From the Library at Shandy Hall" and underneath the previous owners address is "Given to the Trust by Joel Downing, 1993". Written in ink on the top right of the page is "J.C. Downing 1992" On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust" with "Shandy Hall Library" inside. Written in pencil on the rear free end-page is "James Beybu?".
