A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy by Mr. Yorick. Two Vols In One. Edinburgh Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. The paste-downs and end-pages are comprised of single sheets of marbled paper, Stormont pattern. The front paste-down has 1 label added to the top left hand corner "From the Library at Shandy Hall". On the rear of the front end-page are 7 lines of pencil notes "Presented by Mrs Gertrude Rowell 3 Granby Place Leeds 6. 1st Scots edt, acc to JCTO in CBEL. Illus Campbell." The frontispiece is a full page cut depicting Laurence Sterne resting his head upon his left hand, with "Sterne" underneath. "Engraved by C. Campbell". Facing this frontispiece is a decorated title page with an illustration/cut to the top with "Vide the Grace, Page 171" underneath and above the title, volume and editors details with "Drawn & Engraved by C. Campbell". Both of these cuts have off-set. On the reverse of the title page is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. On the bottom of page 179 is "T. Maccleish & Co. Printers". Front and rear end paper removed, possibly had previous owner's signature on them?
