The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman by Laurence Sterne. Volume 2. Temple Classics, First Edition.

This volume is bound in dark blue buckram over boards with a decorated spine and the publishers device impressed into the front cover. The front paste-down has a Temple Classic's logo printed in dark green with "Laurence Sterne Born 1713 Died 1768" and "First Edition Published AD 1759 (Published at York) Two Books". Also on this page to the top left are pasted 2 labels "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and underneath and partially overing the printed label is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". The frontispiece is an illustration depicting "Laurence Sterne, "From the Original, By Gainsborough, In The Salford Art Galleries", this faces the title page which has a black border of flowers in art nouveau style. On the reverse of the half title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. The Blank Page is on pp.134-135 and has the side note "The Third Page Enigmatic". TBP pp.134-135 On Page 325 This issue of "Tristram Shandy" based on the text of the 1781 edition of Sterne's works has be edited by Mr Walter Jerrold, who has added the Marginalia and the accompanying notes, IG. Feb 10th 1899. Jerrold was an English writer - children's books and others.
