A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy. By Mr. Yorick. A New Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather. The front paste-down has 1 label within the centre "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall". Written in ink on the top of this page is "This fellows wit is marred by his licenciousness. I knew him and also madam his fool of a Wife & also madam his Daughter as great a fool as her mother. H. Minet." Written in pencil underneath is "In another volume there is a note in the same writing as the above with a date 1754. (Sterne 1716-1768)". Also written in pencil on the front free end-page is "This was Hughes Minet (1731-1813) a partner in the family packet-boat business Dover-Calais & Wm Minet. Some account of the Hugenot family of Minet, 1892. & also Curtis (?), letters, p465. Also written in ink on the title page underneath "Mr. Yorick" (likely the same hand as before and thus 'Minet' "the assumed name of Lau.ce Sterne an unworthy Churchman, who had the impudence to publish his Sermons (even Sermons) under this libertine name of Yorick". On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page. A handwritten criticism of Sterne to the front board by H Minet.
