This volume is fully bound in leather, with a replaced spine. The front paste-down has 2 labels; On the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Also on this page are various pencil notes "Signature of Lau. Sterne's grandfather (d.1703) and stamp on cover of simons eldest son & L's uncle, Richard;...KM". On the front free end-page is written in ink "Sim Sterne". Also attached to the first blank page, via a blob of wax, is a hand written note/letter in ink. Please see original, as much is difficult to transribe. On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. The catchword is to the bottom of every page. Throughout the volume are various marginalia.Stamped into the top left corner of the front cover is "Richard Sterne 1703" with "100" in the centre of the rear board.
