The Schemer; or, Universal Satirist. By that Great Philosopher Helter van Scelter.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. The front paste-down has 1 label on the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall". Underneath this are previous owners names "Phoebe Booth", "Ann Booth", "1764" with "E/" on the front free end page which is likely a booksellers note. "Entered in the Hall-Book of the Company of Stationers, According to Act of Parliament".On the reverse of the title page, underneath the Advertisment, is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. The catchword is to the bottom of every page. Throughout the text block various publishers flowers/devices are used. The spine has 5 raised bands which have impressed gilt lines either side and "Schemer" written in ink on the spine. The board faces have a border of 2 gilt impressed lines and the edges have impressed docoration.
