A New Collection of Epitaphs; Panegyrical and Moral, humorous, Whimsical, Satyrical and Inscriptive; Including the most Remarkable Inscriptions in the Collections of Hacket, Jones and Toldervy; Together with One Thousand Epitaphs Never Before Published. In Two Volumes. Vol. II. Humourous, Whimsical, Satyrical and Inscriptive.

This volume is fully bound in tooled boards with the paste-downs comprised of single sheets of marbled paper Shell pattern (on Stormont?), the edges of the text block are also marbled in the same pattern. The front paste-down has 3 labels; within the centre is a large previous owners bookplate with the motto "Si Dieu Veult" underneath the heraldic coat of arms with the name "John Nordcliffe Preston". On the top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath and partially covering the coat of arms "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Written in ink on the reverse of the front free end-page is "C. Preston 1810" with "?" unclear underneath in pencil. "2 vols" is also written in pencil on the top of the first blank page. On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Also pasted into the book is an account of an epitaph in the Gloucester Herald.
