This volume is bound in marbled boards, Shell pattern with a leather spine and corners, the text block edges have brown mottling. The front paste-down has 3 labels; within the centre is a previous owners bookplate with "Charles S. Mason" written in ink above a coat-of-arms with "Hynam" underneath. Also on this page, written in pencil is "? Hogarth intrest (?) + Sterne" (slightly covered by labels) with "1854=1890". On the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Written in ink on the top right of the title page is "Willm Mason (possibly Moxon?)". This page also has various marginalia written in pencil relating the the author and his pesudonym. On the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Anecdotes of Sterne in this volume. p.223 Sterne is likened to a Sensitive Plant during a game.
