Autobiographical Recollections. By the Late Charles Robert Leslie, R.A. Edited with a Prefactory Essay on Leslie as an Artist, and Selections from his Correspondence. In Two Volumes, Volume II. With Portrait.

This volume is bound in green buckram with ox-blood coloured leather spine and corners. The paste-downs's and end-pages are comprised of single sheets of marbled paper, Bouquet/Peacock pattern; the edges of the text block have also been decorated with this marbling. There are 3 labels on the front paste-down; within the centre is a previous owners bookplate depicting an eagle on a baby's crib underneath a crown, with the motto "Sans Changer", written in pencil underneath is "154.DI". On the top left are "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Printed in small capitols on the top left of the obverse of the front free end-page is "Hodgson Binder Liverpool". On the reverse of the title page is a circular black stamp with "Laurence Sterne Trust" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" in the centre. Also relating to this book is a Royal Academy invitation to a private view by C.R. Leslie, 1831 - this is in the dining room next to the painting on the panelling.
