This volume is fully bound in tooled, dark red buckram boards. The paste-down's and end-pages are comprised of single sheets of pale yellow paper. The front paste-down has 3 labels; On the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Pasted onto the bottom left corner is a small label with "Band van de Gebr.s. V.D. Heuvel Hofboekbinders, ?'s Hage" (some of the red ink has rubbed off). Printed on the obverse of the title page is a circular stamp with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" and inside "The Kenneth Monkman Collection". The spine has gilt floral decoration with "L. Sterne's Tristram Shandy" near the head band and "Haarlem A.C. Kruseman" immediately above the tail band. The boards are tooled with geometric decoration and the front board has a large floral device which is in gilt impressed into the centre.
