An Account of the Rise, Progress, and Present State of the Magdalen Charity.

This volume is bound in dark brown/green buckram boards, and gilt edges to the text block. The front and rear paste-downs and free end-pages are comprised of sheets of marbled paper, French Curl pattern.The front paste-down has 3 labels; On the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Adjacent to these is a piece of paper with "G.A. Sala" printed in capitols. Written in pencil on the reverse of the front free end-page is "Scarce Copy" and "Sala's copy" "Bound by Zaehnsdorf. G.A. Sala". Also "Coll KM, Contains 'The Unknown World' p.118. Some interleaving and 2 extra ills". Also, within the centre of this page is a small newspaper cutting with "A Bible, with autograph inscription, presentedin 1747 by Thomas Coram, founder of the Foundling Hospital, to Elizabeth Northcote, an inmate is on sale." with Nov. 15.1921" in pencil underneath. Printed on the very bottom left of this page is "Bound by Zaehnsdorf". Printed on the title page are the publishers details, and on the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp in ink with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. At the back of this volume is a list of governors and contributors to the charity.
