The Sermons of Mr. Yorick. Volume 1. Ninth Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards and the edges of the text block have red mottling. The front paste-down has 2 labels on the top left; "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall", and underneath this is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". On the top of the front free end-page are "SYI-9A".On the obverse of the title page is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. There is a printers device/flower underneath the title which is the same as the one in volume 2 (volume 1 is darker). On the top of the title page is a previous owners signature written in ink Rie (Richard?) James, 1771". The frontispiece is full page and depicts Sterne within a roundell with "Laurence Sterne A.M. Prebendary of York etc" in capitols within a cartouch underneath. Above and to the right is "Frontispiece, Vol I", this plate has been cropped off at the bottom.The frontispiece has off-set onto the adjacent title page.The catchword is to the bottom right of every page.
