Hardback hollow-back. This volume is fully bound with red cloth-covered boards and also a black paper cover with the top edge of the text block stained red. The front and rear end pages have frame like decoration with small black and white images in the centre. Pasted onto the top left corner of the front paste-down are 2 small paper labels with "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Pasted onto the centre of the front paste-down is a previous owners book-plate with "G. John Normanton Halifax". Written in pencil on the top right of the front free end page is "£3-10-0". Stamped onto the bottom of
the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp with "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with inside "The Kenneth Monkman Collection".
