The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy. The Modern Library Edition.

This volume is fully bound in grey book cloth, with a green decorated paper cover which has itself been covered at a later date in plastic The front and rear paste-down's and end-pages are comprised of single sheets of green paper with white illustrations with The Modern Library logo. The top edge of the text block has also been stained green. The front paste-down has 2 labels on the top left side "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" and "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Printed on the reverse of the title page are the publishers and printers details and also the circular stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust, Shandy Hall" with "Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. The first page of the volume has a brief history of Laurence Sterne. Written in pencil on the front paper fold in is "10s/-" On the spine is a black matt title piece with the following in gilt "Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne. Modern Library", with above, also in gilt. Printed on the paper spine is "Sterne", The Modern Library Logo "Tristram Shandy. 147. Modern Library". The front cover has a modern interpretation of Sterne in clerics robes. On the rear cover is information relating to The Modern Library as well as a coupon. The front fold-in discusses this volume.The Black Page is a small rectangle measuring 30mm x 46mm, and is located on page 28 along with other text. The Marble Page is missing, and should be located on page 203. The Blank Page is located on page 427, the page number is smudged and the Plot Lines are on pages 429-430, BP SSBP & MP NMP. TBP. ND in book, later attributed to 1940.
