The Sermons of Mr. Yorick. Volume 1. Twelfth Edition.

This volume is fully bound in vellum over boards with 6 stitches in vellum on either side of the spine. Both front and rear past-down and free end-page are comprised of 1 page of marbled paper (Turkish?) which has been sewn onto the binding,.The front paste-down has 1 label a previous owners bookplate on pink/salmon paper with a shield device above "L'esperance nous soutient" in capitols above "Richard Campbell Bazett". On the reverse of the front free end-page written in pencil is "7 vol", "£4-10-0", "C", "Volume 5, 6, and 7 are 1st edition" and "KM copy A of 12th ed 1775 (vols I + II). On the top of the title page is a previous owners signature written in ink "Anne Harper". On the obverse of the title page is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. The frontispiece is opposite the title page and is a full page cut of Laurence Sterne within a roundell with "Laurence Sterne A.M. Prebendary of York etc" in capitols on 2 lines within a cartouche. To top right is "Frontispiece, Vol 1."bottom left is "Reynolds pinx.t" and bottom right "J. Collyer sculp." This frontispiece has off-set onto the adjoining title page as well as bleeding through to the page between the frond end-page and the title page. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page.
