The Sermons of Mr. Yorick. Volume 1 and Volume 2.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards. The front paste-down has 3 labels; "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall", underneath this is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". Within the centre of the page is a bookplate pasted vertically "William Gardom" within a foliate border. The frontispiece is opposite the title page and is a full page cut of Laurence Sterne within a roundell with "Laurence Sterne A.M. Prebendary of York etc" in capitols on 2 lines within a cartouche. To the top right corner is "Frontispiece, Vol I.", bottom left is "Reynolds pinx.t" and bottom right "Ravenet sculp.". The same device is used on the title page in both Volume 1 and Volume 2 (although it is darker in volume 1.) On the obverse of the title page of both Volume 1 and 2 is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. A previous owner has stamped their name in blue ink "J.B. Wallis. 1912." on the top centre of the title page.
