The Sermons of Mr. Yorick. Volume 1. Third Edition.

This volume is fully bound in leather and the edges of the text block have feint evidence of red dye. The front paste-down has 2 labels; "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall", underneath this is "Property of the L S Trust, 1986". On the obverse of the title page is an ink stamp "Laurence Sterne Trust Shandy Hall" in a circle with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside it. On the front paste-down is a previous owners signature written in ink "D (?) Kitcat (?) and also on the top right of the front free end-page is "David James's 1761" also written in ink, and has bled through to the next page. This signature is repeated on the title page around the word 'The'. There is the usual Dodsley's printers device underneath the title. The frontispiece is opposite the title page and is a full page cut of Laurence Sterne within a roundell with "Laurence Sterne A.M. Prebendary of York etc" in capitols on 2 lines within a cartouche. To bottom left is "Reynolds pinx.t" and bottom right "Ravenet sculp." This frontispiecs has off-set onto the adjoining title page. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page.
